In this newsletter: an invitation to my next book event in Philly, holiday gift guides, and what to do this week. If you’ve found your way here but are not yet subscribed, here, let me help you with that (it’s free):
For the last stop on my book tour this year, I’ll be headed to Philadelphia next week (my first time visiting!) for a special event at the women and Queer-owned independent bookstore, A Novel Idea. If you’re in Philly, I hope you’ll join me for a (free!) evening of books, travel, and sparkling conversation as I celebrate the recent release of my book CALL YOU WHEN I LAND.
For my event, I’ll be joined by @livinglesh, whom I had the pleasure of meeting during a press trip to Washington, D.C., a little over a year ago. Lesh is a travel content creator and writer who seemlessly marries style, travel, and lifestyle content, packaging it together in a way that makes the world seem more beautiful. If you’re around on Tuesday, 12/5, and based in Philly, I hope you’ll join us at this beloved local bookstore.
P.S. We have a great feminist city guide to Philly on Unearth Women that’s worth checking out!
Tis’ the season for gift guides, and there have been some truly stellar ones popping up on my radar. Between carefully curated book lists to travel-inspired gift ideas to guides that only focus on women and BIPOC-owned businesses—there’s no reason to be giving Amazon and Starbucks gift cards this year (or truly, ever).
There’s Fodor’s new holiday gift guide, which shares a slew of travel-inspired gifts that go far beyond the usual travel tech and gadgets. There’s Real Simple’s Best Books of the Year guide, which is perfect for the book lovers in your life. If you need more book inspiration (because truly, who can get enough?), there is PureWow’s holiday gift guide featuring 42 books to choose from. And, of course, if you’re looking for a gift that gives back, look no further than Unearth Women’s gift guide, which includes items from women and BIPOC-founded companies.
Watch The Holdovers, now streaming. I watched this movie last night and found it to be so heart-warming and endearing, not to mention a cozy holiday watch. Read Maybe Next Time by Cesca Major, which is this month’s Reese Witherspoon’s book club pick. I just started reading this book while en route to D.C. for my last book tour stop, and I was instantly sucked in. Listen to the Shameless Podcast wherever you get your podcasts. I recently came across this podcast hosted by two Australian pop-culture lovers and have really been enjoying it. It’s an easy, guilty-pleasure listen that gets into all the drama unfolding in the world of pop culture (think Justin Timberlake’s reaction to Britney Spears’ new memoir). And finally, pre-order my dear friend’s new book Wander Woman, which is truly fantastic. I had the joy of receiving an advance copy and, let me tell you, this book is essential for any woman looking to solo travel.
